NYSCSS LEADERSHIP POSITIONS

Each Position Term is a Two Year Term

Officers are volunteers.


President


  • Shall be the Chief officer of the corporation.
  • Shall lead the board of directors in performing its duties and responsibilities.

  • Shall review Committee Reports, prepare Committee Charges and solicit nominations/appointments for Committees from Committee Chairs and prepare Committee charges.

  • Prepare agendas for Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and Committee Chairs meetings.

  • Serve as delegate to the New York State Council of Educational Associations (NYSCEA).

  • Attend, if possible, Local Affiliated Councils annual conventions 

  • Act as co-signatory, with Sites Committee Chair, of negotiated final Convention sites contracts.

  • Serve as the Vice President for Member Engagement - Convention Planning Committee Chair

  • Organize the President’s Reception at the annual convention. 

  • Required attendance of monthly meetings of the Board of Directors (during convention preparation often 2 and maybe 3 times per month)

  • Shall perform all other duties incident to the office or properly required by the board of directors.

  • Continued time commitment to the organization throughout the term is required (roughly 3-4 hours per week and increased to 5-6 hours per week during convention preparations)


Vice President of Member Outreach

  • Chairperson of the annual Convention and lead the Convention Planning Committee  - NYSCSS Convention is an annual multi-day Convention with over 600 attendees  

  • Prepare status reports and presentations for Board of Directors on planning events

  • Work with the Treasurer and Sites Chairperson on Convention budget and location issues and items

  • Required attendance at monthly meetings of the Board of Directors (during convention preparation often 2 and maybe 3 times per month)

  • Oversee or serve on various committees as assigned by the President

  • Expected to learn and access organizational management systems to carry out duties

  • Continued time commitment to the organization throughout the term is required (roughly 2-3 hours per week and increased to 4-5 hours per week during convention preparations)


Vice President of Policy and Administration

  • Will assist in matters of the affiliate local and national councils and organizations.

  • Process re-affiliation papers. Inform each local council of representation and request delegate information.

  • During the year, stay in contact with Local Council Presidents, especially those that are forming new councils or need help/advice.

  • Solicit their membership lists and provide forms for affiliation procedure to Local Council Presidents

  • Host Local Council Presidents’ meeting at the Convention.

  • Meet with the Membership Committee at the annual Convention.

  • Oversee committees as assigned by the President.

  • Required attendance of monthly meetings of the Board of Directors (during convention preparation often 2 and maybe 3 times per month)

  •  Shall perform all other duties incident to the office or properly required by the board of directors.

  • Continued time commitment to the organization throughout the term is required (roughly 2-3 hours per week and increased to 4-5 hours per week during convention preparations)



Treasurer

  • Lead director for oversight of the financial condition and affairs of the corporation.

  • Oversee and keep the board informed of the financial condition of the corporation and of audit or financial review results.

  • Oversee budget preparation and shall ensure that appropriate financial reports, including an account of major transactions and the financial condition of the corporation, are made available to the board of directors on a timely basis or as may be required by the board of directors

  • Oversee and manage all 500 plus active members accounts 

  • Responsible for all annual Federal IRS and State nonprofit tax filings 

  • Responsible for periodically checking the organization PO BOX and requisite mailings (Purchase orders, organizational bills, etc)

  • Responsible for maintaining relationships with affiliated Local Council’s treasurers

  • Expected to learn and access organizational management systems to carry out duties

  • Required attendance of monthly meetings of the Board of Directors (during convention preparation often 2 and maybe 3 times per month)

  • Continued time commitment to the organization throughout the term is required (roughly 2-3 hours per week and increased to 4-5 hours per week during convention preparations)


Secretary

  • Take comprehensive minutes of any official meetings held by the Board of Directors or the Executive Committee as well as at the Annual Business Meeting

  • Maintain a list of current members of Board of Directors, collecting all reports, the  agenda and other information needed for the Fall and Spring Board Meetings and the Annual Business Meeting and providing same to members of the Board of Directors, approximately two (2) weeks prior to the meeting

  • Serve as a member of the Communications Committee.

  • Supervise the revision and publication of the Leadership Manual, including revisions to the Constitution and Bylaws, and the Leadership Directory

  • Perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the board of directors or the board President

  • Shall oversee or serve on committees as assigned by the President

  • Required attendance of monthly meetings of the Board of Directors (during convention preparation often 2 and maybe 3 times per month)

  •  Shall perform all other duties incident to the office or properly required by the board of directors.

  • Continued time commitment to the organization throughout the term is required (roughly 2-3 hours per week and increased to 4-5 hours per week during convention preparations)

Member at Large

  • Required attendance at Monthly Board of Directors meetings (during convention preparation often 2 and maybe 3 times per month)

  • Duties include assisting the Vice President of Member Outreach with Annual Convention responsibilities

  • Duties include assisting with all functions of the Board and any duties specified by the President.

  • Expected to learn and access organizational management systems to carry out duties

  • Continued time commitment to the organization throughout the term is required (roughly 1-2  hours per week and increased to 3-4 hours per week during convention preparations)
