This institute will be offered July 7-12, 2013. The only costs for selected teachers will be $45 per night towards their rooms at Best Western Plus Ticonderoga Inn and Suites (based on double occupancy), and, if they choose, the cost of the three graduate credits through the College of St. Joseph (Rutland, Vermont). 

Institute highlights include:

  • Lecture-discussions led by visiting scholars from across the country focused on Benedict Arnold’s role in the first three years of the American Revolution (1775-1777).
  • Opportunities to explore Fort Ticonderoga museum and the surrounding landscape and use items from the artifact and manuscript collections to delve deeper into the history of the people and events of 1775-1777 on the northern frontier.
  • Spending in-depth time with author and historian James Kirby Martin, from the University of Houston and author of Benedict Arnold: Revolutionary Hero.
  • A day-long trip to Saratoga National Historical Park where Arnold’s Continental Army career reached its apex.

 

Successful applicants attend the Fort Ticonderoga Teacher Institute at limited cost. Each teacher is responsible for paying $45 per night towards their rooms at Best Western PlusTiconderoga Inn and Suites (based on double occupancy), The opening dinner and five lunches are included in the Institute, as are handouts and resources and other costs associated with the week's program.
