Want to learn more about Human Rights and how you can incorporate them into your classroom?  Interested in joining a community of readers? Join us for our Inaugural Human Rights Online Book Club sponsored by the NYSCSS Human Rights Committee.  Our first meeting will take place via Zoom on February 7, 2025 at 7:00 p.m., where we will be discussing the book A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of A Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah.

For more information about the book, click here

Facilitated by members of the Human Rights Committee, we will discuss the book, brainstorm ways it can be used in the classroom, discuss other books participants might be interested in reading, and any other things that may come up naturally in conversation.  This is a great way to connect with other educators across the state who share your passion for social studies, human rights, and reading!  We hope you will join us.

Please note, all participants are expected to obtain the book on their own and read it before we meet.

If you have any questions regarding the Human Rights Online Book Club, please email the chairs of the Human Rights Committee:

This event is available for members only.  Registration deadline is Friday, January 31, 2025 at 4:00 PM.  Login information for the webinar will be sent to registrants 24 hours before the event.
