TEACHING WITH PRIMARY SOURCES EASTERN REGION

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources program is to build a consortium that fosters collaborations between the Library and the educational community to increase instructional use of Library of Congress digitized primary sources within K-16 classrooms. The program contributes to the quality of education by deepening content understanding and improving student literacy in our nation’s schools.

The Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) Eastern Region, coordinated by Waynesburg University, is charged with facilitating the growth of the TPS network through the systematic integration of TPS methods and materials throughout the educational community within the eastern region of the United States.

Reaching from Maine through Florida, the TPS Eastern Region includes seventeen states and the District of Columbia. These regional initiatives will enhance the development of the national TPS Consortium.

The TPS Eastern Region supports educational and cultural institutions throughout the region in implementing primary source-based professional development programs for K-16 teachers and librarians by connecting them to free Library of Congress educational materials and  learning opportunities. The TPS Eastern Region also grants financial support on behalf of the Library of Congress to qualified applicant projects.

Opportunity to Participate:
The Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) Eastern Region Program is currently accepting proposals for the integration of primary sources in K-16 education, existing pre-service and graduate-level education curriculum, and teacher professional development programs. Additionally, cultural institutions and other community organizations may be partners within these programs.

Proposals up to $20,000 will be considered and are accepted on a rolling basis. Preference will be given to proposals that have the most potential for being integrated into K-16 classrooms for the long-term.
