The Mystery of the Albany Mummies explores our fascination with ancient Egypt, the 1909 travel of the mummies and coffins to Albany, life in ancient Egypt, and how they prepared for the afterlife. The workshop will include a tour, a screening of the documentary film, and teacher resource materials.

There is no cost for this program, but you must register for Thursday attendance at the conference, before signing up for this program.  Advance registration for this program is required and is limited to 25 participants.

Teachers will learn about the exhibition “The Mystery of the Albany Mummies,” daily life in ancient Egypt, and how new digital imaging technology revealed previously unknown information about the mummies through the screening of a documentary film. Participants will be given a copy of the teacher resource which includes a poster set for the classroom and a series of lessons to be used either as a unit of study or as stand-alone lessons. The lessons include reflective and critical-thinking questions about geography, differentiated group activities, power point lessons with web-quests, problem solving and decoding skills, analytical and visual thinking skill building, object identifications, document based questions, as well as narrative summaries through drawing and design.

The documentary film about the mummies will be screened for the participants. Erika Sanger will lead a discussion based tour of the exhibition and a review of the teacher resource materials. Each participant will receive a copy of the teacher resource materials.
